Bromance Drama Review


So I wanted to review this drama for so long. I watched this drama earlier this year and loved it. Probably one of my favourite drama of all time.

But better late than never, One of my favourite Taiwanese drama after a long time or should I say after Autumn Concerto.

Bromance is a story of a young girl Pi Yanuo who has to live her life as boy till her 26th birthday because the day she was born in the Pi family, the fortune teller predicted that it will be a baby boy for the family which will bring prosperity to the house. But the nurse announces that it’s a baby girl instead of a baby boy. So the fortune teller tells her parents that she has to live her life as a boy till her 26th birthday or it will bring her as well as her family misfortune. So she does. And her life starts to change as she meets Du Zi Feng a Triad leader.

Stupid and over the top drama plot ever. That’s what I thought until I dived into the drama to watch what the hype was about. And I was surprised to enjoy this drama than any other Gender Blender drama I have watched.

This drama took me by surprise, I never expected it to be so good.

Bromance is a romantic comedy with Gender Blender in it which gives a fresh feel to the clichéd story.

Bromance is a very good example of Gender Blender done right and l love that about it.

So now let’s get into the characters.

Pi Yanuo is played by Megan Lai and she nailed it. The biggest problem with gender blender is that a girl looks like a girl even when she cross dresses. For me that is a big let down because if a girl is cross dressing she must at least look a little bit boyish. But no, many dramas just cast a pretty girl who dresses as boy. You take one look and you know she is girl. But Megan Lai is perfect for this role because she has this boyish vibe and in this drama she looks like a boy. You wont make out that she is a girl and that’s how it is suppose to be.
Pi Yanuo is a strong girl with a heart of a girl who eagerly awaits her 26th birthday.

And then we have Du Zi Feng played by Baron Chen a triad leader who falls in love with Pi Yanuo and questions his sexuality because firstly he is a triad leader and secondly why is it Pi Yanuo, a man who his sister loves. Du Zi Feng is charming, strong and lovely. I loved his character so much.

Both of them together had bang on chemistry. I mean perfect. It was such a pleasure to watch them onscreen. I used to always smile whenever they had scenes together with each other. They were perfect together. Loved them.

All the side characters were also really good and I loved them as well.

Again this story is not a serious story. It is made for fun and for entertainment. It has a good story, characters and everything but then it is a romantic comedy. One should keep that in mind when you jump in to watch this drama. I mean there is stupidity and over the top humour but it is all fun and worth it.

If you want something light on head and fun to watch, I highly recommend this drama.
I think you can’t go wrong with this drama if you are planning to start watching Taiwanese Drama.

But more than the world building, the characters are important as you cannot fall in love with a fantasy world without good characters in it.

Full House Thai Drama

photo credits: to the owner  I still remember the feeling I got by watching one of the famous Korean drama Full-house , which was utterly amazing. I had completed that drama within two days. I know it’s crazy but that’s how good the drama was and is. It was the first ever Asian drama I had watched, hence it holds a special place in my heart. If the original version was this good, I had to check out the new version of Full-house drama which was released in 2014, and I have to say that it was amazing. Full-house Thai Drama is remake of the same Korean drama Full-house, even though being the same story it does have its own colors and characteristics. Full-house is a story about a girl Aom-am who is tricked by her friends to go to Korea for a vacation so that they could sell her house and make money for themselves. Being a naïve girl, she is badly tricked and now a homeless girl she has nowhere to go. The only house she had was taken away from her by her own friends.
